Introducing Michael Dorn, Director Industrial in Brazil since January, 2017
Michael Dorn, a German national started his journey with Huhtamaki as Application Engineer in October, 2012. In 2014, he got an opportunity to move to the extrusion team as R&D Manager. This assignment brought him in close contact with production team, customers as well as suppliers. After this exposure and experience, he was ready to take up an international assignment in Brazil, in Laminor S.A. joint venture as Director Industrial since January, 2017.
Looking back at your career, how has the journey been?
"Time seems to have flown! I started my career as an Industrial Mechanical Apprentice in 2002 and then worked as an Operator and simultaneously finished my Bachelors degree in plastic, rubber operations & technology for the next two years. Prior to joining Huhtamaki, I worked with three other companies and gained experience in lamination, blow molding, injection molding and cold extrusion. In my current role, my responsibilities include film production, lamination, slitting, R&D, projects, maintenance and quality management to name a few. It is indeed a big challenge and a great opportunity, and I would like to make the most of it."
"On personal front, my family includes my wife and two adorable sons, 3.5 years and 2 years. The timing for this move just seemed perfect as both of them are yet to start their formal school. My family helps me maintain a great work-life balance. Overall, we have received a very warm welcome here in Brazil. I am still struggling to learn Portuguese though. It’s not easy but I am making progress each day," Michael concludes.
