Investments pay off! A new machine for increased production capacity
Investments pay off!
We have made another big investment at the Huhtamaki Flexible Packaging site in Ronsberg: in an extruder manufactured by SML for the production of Terolen®.
The additional machine enables us to double the output of this PP film. All in all, the investment totalled approximately four million Euros.
The official inauguration of the machine took place on 3rd February 2016. To mark the occasion guests from our key customer Mars including top management representatives were invited. As the main producer of the film for the pouches of the renowned brands Whiskas and Pedigree, we have built up a successful, long-standing business partnership with the confectionery and pet food multinational company: "From the outset, the extraordinary relationship between Mars and Huhtamaki – which reaches a new peak with this investment – has been shaped by mutual appreciation and understanding", stressed Martin Hauck, Global Key Account Manager Mars.
Terolen® is an innovative PP film, designed to meet the requirements of pouch packaging. Especially to address the often criticised difficult opening behaviour of such packs. Our target was to develop a film that enables the consumer to tear open any given pouch size in a straight line, with the greatest of ease.
To the delight of our developers, the result has been a resounding success! The film is already used worldwide in the pet food industry and is gradually replacing traditional packaging. In the meantime, the patent has also been transferred over to the food industry: in Belgium and Holland, small sausage snacks packaged in pouches made from our Terolen® film have been on the market since last year.
Carsten Grams, member of the Management Team at Huhtamaki Flexibles Europe and responsible for sales and marketing, is certain that even more possible uses will be found for Terolen® and that the film will continue to be a success story. With market successes like this, we are strengthening our site in Ronsberg and proving the innovative strength of the Allgäu economic region in addition to our own.
